Crosby Garrett Helmet Part II

I put this story up a few days ago since then its been all over the web. Just in case you missed it, a guy has found a Roman Cavalry Helmet in Cumbria with a Metal Detector. The Tullie House museum and art gallery have launched an appeal to try and keep the artifact in the U.K. You can donate at the link by downloading the donation form. I would strongly urge you to do this, the helmet is a very significant find and really should be kept in the U.K. The item goes under the hammer at Christies on the 7th October 2010 so you need to be quick to dontate and help out. Please give what ever you can.

Fallen Soldier Finally Returns Home

I found this quite moving story about a U.S marine who has laid in the fields of Northern France since 1917 after being killed in action by a German machine gun. He had been found by French nationals while they were out with a metal detector hunting war artifacts. The Marine was buried with full military honours in Arlington cemetary. Crosby Garrett Helmet

This is an incredilbe find with a metal detector in Cumbria and its for sale at Christies on the 7th October its dated by Christies as 1st to 3rd Century.  The famous auctioners believe it could bring £200.000 to £300,000 which considering its age is quite low.  A really interesting article which you can read here.
